11th Annual National Miniature Show April 130, 2010 |
This competition, open to artists from all over the USA, awards more than $800 in prizes and purchase awards. Kansas artist Gary Ozias will judge the show and conduct a three day pastels workshop on April 9, 10, and 11 at the art center. 2010 Competition Calendar: March 27: Deadline for entries, shipped and hand delivered. April 1 - 30: Show dates. April 9: Artists Reception from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at Prairie Winds Art Center.. April 9, 10, and 11: Gary Ozias workshop. May 1 through 7: Unsold works to be picked up. Media accepted: Oil, acrylic, watercolor, graphic, pastel, mixed media, photography, sculpture, and textiles. Rules: 1. All entries are subject to be juried. Decision of the Judge is final. 2. All entries must be original works not previously exhibited in a Prairie Winds Art Center show. 3. Image size for 2-D work must not exceed 25 square inches (example, 5 x 5 = 25 sq. inches). 4. Inside framed art must not exceed 100 square inches. Outside of frame must not exceed 4 in width (196 square inches). 5. All 2-D work must be ready for hanging with wire and screweyes. No sawtooth hangers are allowed. 6. Sculpture must not exceed 216 cubic inches (example: 6 x 6 x 6 = 216 cubic inches) excluding base and/or mountings. 7. The following standards for miniature art will be applied: (a) The 1/6 Rule. Representational subjects may not exceed 1/6th of their actual size. For example, a human head that is 9" in height may not exceed 1.5". (b) The 1/6 Rule does not apply to nonrepresentational work, although such works should be in harmony with the spirit of miniaturism. 8. All entries must be the work of living artists 18 years of age or older. Awards Best of Show: $250 Runner-Up: $100 Merit Award: $50 Cash and merchandise awards over $500. Liability Submission to the exhibition constitutes acceptance of stated conditions and includes permission to photograph accepted works for publicity and educational purposes. All entries will be handled with care. However, Prairie Winds Art Center will not be responsible for any loss or damage to submitted works. Insurance is the responsibility of the artist. Shipping and Receiving: Work should be hand delivered or shipped to Prairie Winds Art Center on or before September 28, 2009. Artwork must be packed in reusable containers and a return address label must be included. NO P.O. Boxes on return labels, only street addresses will be accepted. Please use bubble wrap and rubber bands - no tape or packing peanuts. No wooden crates except for sculpture. If package exceeds 10 lbs, it will be shipped COD for the additional weight. Return of Work All works, other than the shipped works, must be picked up at Prairie Winds Art Center between May 1 and May 7, 2010. Fees All fees are non-refundable. Hand delivered items: $8 per item with a limit of 5 items. Shipped work: 1 item = $16, 2 -3 items - $35, and 4 - 5 items = $55. Fees include return packing, postage, and insurance for a $100 maximum.
